Who is ESAP suitable for?
This English preparation aims to improve the English language proficiency of the students who have been identified as having a low level of English attainment, so that by the end of the preparation, they can actively participate in mainstream university courses to an international standard.

Special Semester | Academic Year 2023

For International Students

International students can apply for the English for Specific and Academic Purposes (ESAP) according to the application rounds listed below. The courses will be taught on-site on Monday to Friday at 09:00 – 12:00 in the morning, and 13:00 – 16:00 in the afternoon.

For Thai Students

Thai students can apply for the English for Specific and Academic Purposes (ESAP) according to the application rounds listed below. The courses will be taught on-site on Monday to Friday at 09:00 – 12:00 in the morning, and 13:00 – 16:00 in the afternoon.

English for Specific and Academic Purposes (ESAP)

Qualifications

  1. Completed Mattayom 6, grade 12 or equivalent.
  2. General people or grade 8-12 pupils are acceptable to study in ESAP courses to improve English skills.

Application Methods

  1. Walk-in Application: Receive an application form at Khon Kaen University International College, 2nd floor, Academic and Fundamental Learning Building.
  2. Online Application: Please click APPLY NOW, create an account, and login to fill up your information in the system. Please upload your required documents in form of scanned version (.pdf/.png/.jpeg) including a payment evidence. Required Documents

  1. Completed application form
  2. A photo sized 3×4 cm with neither hat or sunglasses and taken no longer than 6 months (Stickers are not allowed.)
  3. A copy of ID card (for Thai applicants)/Passport (for international applicants)
  4. A copy of High school transcript or the certificate equivalent to secondary school transcript
  5. A copy of High school diploma or graduation certificate
  6. A copy of legalizing name change certificate (if any)

1. Students who finish ESAP in the summer and have an Exit Test score from 0% - 49%, will study ESAP1 course for 135 hours during the first semester. (The class schedule will be announced later on www.ic.kku.ac.th)
2. This course provides General English for the first 70 hours and the proceeding 65 hours is Academic English. All four skills will be covered in each class, as following the Communicative Language Teaching style.
3. After the 135 hours of study, the students will take the ESAP1 Exit test, and the criteria of the test results are:

Study ESAP1 course in the next semester and register for three KKUIC General Education courses, which will be suggested in the announcement of the exit test results.

50% – 79%

Study ESAP2 course in the next semester and register for three KKUIC General Education courses, which will be suggested in the announcement of the exit test results.

80% – 100%

Exit ESAP and register for the regular courses of the next semester listed in their programs.

4. In case students cannot pass the ESAP courses in a special semester (summer), they need to continually enroll the courses in regular semesters (the first or second semesters). 

1. Students who finish ESAP2 in the summer and have an Exit Test score from 50% – 79%, will study ESAP2 course in the first semester. (The class schedule will be announced later on www.ic.kku.ac.th).
2. This course will provide General English for the first 70 hours and the proceeding 65 hours will be Academic English. All four skills will be covered in each class, as following the Communicative Language Teaching style.
3. After the 135 hours of study, the students will take the ESAP2 Exit test, and the criteria of the test results are:

4. In case students cannot pass the ESAP courses in a special semester (summer), they need to continually enroll the courses in regular semesters (the first or second semesters). 

  1. Students who study an ESAP course and have the Exit Test score from 80% - 100%, will exit the ESAP course.
  2. Students who do not pass the exit test of the last ESAP course in each academic year, they need to contact KKUIC staff, where each student will be considered on an individual basis, and given suggestions on the options and what courses they may study next.
