KKU Hosts Public Outreach Program on the United Nations and Thailand’s Foreign Affairs to Mark the 80th Anniversary of Thailand’s UN Membership

On 3 July 2026, Khon Kaen University, through the KhonKaen University International College (KKUIC) and the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, in collaboration with the Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the United Nations Association of Thailand (UNAT), organized the Public Outreach Program on the United Nations and Thailand’s Foreign Affairs to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Thailand’s Membership in the United Nations. The event was held at Room M301, Academic Center and Fundamental Learning Building, Khon Kaen University, with the aim of enhancing students’ understanding of the United Nations, Thailand’s foreign policy, and international cooperation.

Prior to the opening ceremony, Asst. Prof. SirimonpornThipsingh, Dean of Khon Kaen University International College, together with Ajarn Rapeepan Pittayadilok, Associate Dean for Administration and Strategic Planning, Assistant Professor Dr. Suntree Buchitchon, Dean of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, and Dr. PichayaChongudomkan, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, welcomed representatives from the Department of International Organizations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the United Nations Association of Thailand. The university executives also had an opportunity to meet and exchange views with the guest speakers and participants before the official opening of the program.
The opening ceremony was presided over by H.E. Ambassador Atchara Seriputra, Vice President of the United Nations Association of Thailand. The event was attended by executive members of UNAT, representatives from the Department of International Organizations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Jirakarn Pornsopit, Head of the Temporary Passport Office in Khon Kaen, as well as faculty members and students from Khon Kaen University and educational institutions across Northeastern Thailand.
The program featured a series of lectures delivered by distinguished speakers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ms. Chamsai Menasveta, Director of the International Organizations Administrative Affairs Division, presented the topic “Thailand and the United Nations.” Ms. PatcharamonSiriwatana, Director of the Peace, Security and Disarmament Division, shared insights into the United Nations’ role in peace and security, human rights, and sustainable development. In addition, H.E. Ambassador Poj Harnpol and H.E. Ambassador Cherdkiat Atthakor delivered a session entitled “Behind Thai Diplomacy: What Do the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Thai Diplomats Do?”, offering participants valuable perspectives drawn from their extensive diplomatic experience and Thailand’s engagement in international affairs.
The program also included an interactive session, allowing participants to test their knowledge, engage in discussions with the speakers, and gain first-hand insights from experienced diplomats and international affairs practitioners.
This event reflects the strong partnership between KhonKaen University, the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the United Nations Association of Thailand in promoting international awareness and multilateral cooperation. It also reinforces their shared commitment to equipping young people with the knowledge, perspectives, and global competencies needed to become responsible global citizens in an increasingly interconnected world.
