Khon Kaen University International College (KKUIC) has the mission to empower global citizens and promote sustainability transformation through quality education, research and innovation, and community development. As KKUIC can see the importance that sustainable development will make our students and college members informed choices in their daily lives which leads to a more sustainable future, we try to carry out the activities aligning with our strategies in the sustainable theme. In this academic year, KKUIC is continuing our mission to promote sustainable development through these interesting activities as follows:
International Field Trips for KKUIC’s Students
With a focus on fostering interdisciplinary innovation and global citizenship, we prioritize education, learning, and research to achieve this goal. This year, our college has offered our students to experience global citizenship in the following overseas cities.
Visited Singapore and Tokyo, Japan:
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure – Understanding how Singapore was transformed from a fledging nation to one of the most liveable cities in Asia and became a sustainable Singapore at Singapore City Gallery and other significant landmarks.
SDG 11 : Sustainable Cities and Communities – Learned how cultural heritage has a considerable impact on urban planning and development for communities through the historical tourist attractions in Japan at the Tokyo National Museum, Kamakura Daibutsu, and Asakusa Temple. Moreover, they have done sustainable tourism at Mt. Fuji and Oshina Hakkai Village, which reminded them about the minimization of negative environmental impacts in natural areas near cities to preserve these breathtaking sites.
International Study Trip for KKUIC’s Members
The countryside of Japan reminds us of SDGs, especially protecting nature. The peaceful scenery, with its lush greens, towering cliffs, and calming rivers, showed the perfect balance between humans and the environment. It made us realize how important it is to take care of our planet.
Visited the Ginga Waterfall at Sounkyo, Sapporo, Japan:
SDG 15: Life on Land – Conserving and restoring terrestrial ecosystems is crucial. Japan’s commitment to maintaining its forests and rivers, such as those around the Ginga Waterfall, helps protect biodiversity and ensures that these natural wonders continue to thrive.
SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation – The pristine rivers and streams in this region highlight the importance of clean water. Efforts to maintain clean water sources are vital for both human health and the environment.
Visited Hokkaido University:
We are captivated journey through history and science. Nestled amidst the beautiful campus, the Hokkaido University Museum showcased the university’s frontier spirits through pioneering research, and innovations, from sustainable development to cutting-edge science. Immersive historical displays offered a glimpse into the university’s past and the remarkable individuals who shaped it. A special thanks goes to Professor Madaki EDA, PhD, whose warm welcome and insights enriched our visit and made it truly unforgettable.
