KKUIC’s Lecturer in International Affairs Division was selected as Thailand’s representative for Study of the United States Institutes (SUSI) Workshop.

On 12-15 October 2023, Mr. Thapiporn Suporn, a lecturer from International Affairs division, has been selected as Thailand’s representative for Study of the United States Institutes (SUSI) workshop, which held at in Villa La Pietra, NYU Florence, Florence, Italy. He assumed the role of a panelist, where he delivered a presentation titled “Unraveling U.S. Foreign Policy in the Russo-Ukrainian War: A Thai Perspective.” The presentation delves into a complex web of narratives and global dynamics. At its core, it scrutinizes the Russo-Ukrainian conflict and the involvement of the United States and NATO from two contrasting viewpoints. On one hand, it explores the narrative of U.S. and NATO investment in the war, shedding light on their motivations and strategic interests in the region. This involves an examination of the military, economic, and geopolitical implications of their involvement, and how it has shaped the ongoing conflict.

On the other hand, the presentation offers insights into how the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Thailand, as a member of ASEAN, perceive and react to the Russo-Ukrainian war. It delves into the intricacies of ASEAN’s diplomatic stance, non-interference policy, and the impact of this conflict on regional stability. It highlights how this reaction contributes to the broader context of great power competition, particularly in Southeast Asia, and how it can potentially exacerbate existing geopolitical tensions.

This exceptional opportunity was made possible through the generous sponsorship of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, with the workshop being coordinated by New York University.
